Columbia Memorial Announces Arrival of New Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist at CMH
Erik Thorsen, CEO of Columbia Memorial Hospital said today, “I am pleased to announce the addition of Douglas Abbott, MD, an Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist, to our professional staff here at CMH.  Dr. Abbott, will be an excellent addition to our team and his expertise as a Sports Medicine Specialist will help us in fulfilling CMH's mission to the community.”

Dr. Abbott comes to us from Coos Bay, Oregon where he practiced for a year, and prior to that, Northern California, where he practiced for 8 years. Dr. Abbott attended medical school at the University of California at San Diego and received his degree in 1996.  His Internship and Residency in Orthopedic Surgery were completed at the University of Southern California. Once an Orthopedist, he further refined his skills with fellowship training in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at The Sports Clinic in Laguna Hills, California in 2002.

An expert in Arthroscopy, Dr. Abbott performs nearly all shoulder and knee reconstructive procedures through minimally invasive techniques in the outpatient surgical setting.

Dr. Abbott will not only use his Sports Medicine experience in the Clinic, but he will also be offering up his expertise to our local athletic teams as a part of a new Sports Medicine outreach program at CMH.  The program is designed to help keep our local athletes in healthy physical condition through the help of Chad Rankin; a CMH employed Certified Athletic Trainer who spends each weekday with one of our local school's athletic teams.

Dr. Abbott arrived at CMH excited to continue his passion for minimally invasive, 21st Century Orthopedic care. He is a pilot and a tinkerer, and is fond of anything with a motor in it. He enjoys jogging and skiing, but mainly spends his free time with his family and enjoys helping raise his 3 children.
